Baby Shark

"Baby Shark" is a kids' tune featuring a shark family. Gaining popularity as a campfire sing-along, it exploded in fame from 2016 onward, spreading across social media, online videos, and radio airwaves. The track began life as a campfire chant or song. While some sources point to traditional folklore as its root, others trace it to camping traditions in the early 1900s, and a few suggest it was created by camp counselors inspired by the film Jaws. It evolved into a campfire favorite where each shark family member is introduced with unique hand gestures. Different renditions of the song depict the sharks catching fish, consuming a sailor, or harming people who subsequently go to heaven. Various groups have secured copyrights for original videos and audio recordings, and some have trademarked merchandise tied to their specific versions; nevertheless, the core song and characters are widely considered to be in the public domain.
