Pac-Man Card Match

Pac-Man Card Match, styled in all caps as PAC-MAN, is an arcade title created by Namco's Toru Iwatani (1955–), which launched in Japan under the name PUCKMAN in May 1980. After being licensed for US distribution by Midway Games, it hit American arcades in October 1980, a period when leading titles were "stark" space shooters like Galaxian and Asteroids. The game defined the standards for the maze chase genre, earning its status as a video game classic and a symbol of 1980s pop culture. A gender split may have existed among players across different genres; one 1982 estimate suggested that 60% of Pac-Man users were female, whereas 90% of those playing the space shoot-'em-up Omega Race were male.
