Futurama

Futurama is an American animated sci-fi comedy created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The show tracks the exploits of a late-20th-century New York City pizza courier, Philip J. Fry, who, after accidentally being frozen in cryogenic sleep for a millennium, lands a job at Planet Express, an interstellar shipping firm set in the retro-futuristic 31st century. Groening conceived the series in the mid-1990s during his time on The Simpsons; he subsequently enlisted David X. Cohen to craft narratives and characters to pitch the program to Fox. In the US, the show broadcast on Fox from March 28, 1999, through August 10, 2003, prior to ending production. Futurama also ran in syndication on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block between 2003 and 2007, until the network's deal lapsed. It returned in 2007 via four direct-to-video movies; the final one debuted in early 2009. Comedy Central struck a deal with 20th Century Fox Television to distribute the existing episodes and present the films as 16 fresh, half-hour installments, forming a fifth season.
